Durel Williams, MSW RSW, EMDR Certified Therapist
I am a Registered Social Worker with over
19 years of experience in social work, having practiced in the United States, Jamaica, and Canada. My cross-cultural experience has afforded me a keen sense of cultural sensitivity that comes with working with various populations in a variety of social contexts, including intimate partner violence, adult and youth justice, and adult and youth mental health. I hold a Master of Social Work from McMaster University, and I am a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), and the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW).
I am an EMDR Certified Therapist. EMDR Certification demonstrates that after concluding 50 hours of training comprised of instruction, practicum, and consultation, I have conducted at least 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients, 20 hours of consultation, and 12 hours of continuing education in EMDR practice.
My approach is also informed by CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness practice.
You will also notice that I approach each session with empathy, compassion, and collaboration. My practice focuses on the experience and impact of trauma; emotional experience and emotion regulation; self-identity and self-worth; attachment and family dynamics; relationships and conflict; abuse; grief and loss, and shame. I enjoy partnering with my clients on their journey toward greater well-being.
